The National Institute for Global Strategy studies (INESG), organized on Wednesday November 8, 2017, in collaboration with the British and United States Embassies in Algiers, a meeting-debate on the theme : “The Allied Landings of Operation Torch “ of the 08 November 1942: impacts then and now”.

At this meeting, witch was at the INESG conference room, attented ambassador, diplomatic representatives and military of European countries accredited in Algiers, also representatives of national institutions and ministries, university researchers and personalities interested in the fields of History and Culture .
This event was opened by the speeches of respectively:

  • Dr Liess BOUKRA the General Manager of INESG;
  • Lord Risby: British Prime Minister’s, Special Envoy to Algeria;
  • His Excellency Mr. John DESROCHER, Ambassador of the United States in to Algeria.

These speakers underlined the historical significance of the Allied landings of 08 November 1942, considered as stage marking the beginning of the end of the Second World War. On this occasion, it was paid tribute to the sacrifice of the soldiers who died in the fight against fascism, as well as to the Algerians, who were mobilized and killed, the weapons in the hand on the various European battlefields.

Following these opening addresses, three conferences were presented by:

  • The retired British Colonel Mr Jeremy T Green OBE ,on the theme : ”The strategic impact of operation Torch”;
  • The American historian and writer Vincent O’Hara presented a paper entitled : ”Operation Torch, November 1942”;
  • The Algerian historian and University Professor Mohammed Ould Si Kaddour El-Korso with a conference entitled : “November 8, 1942, Algiers Capital of France and of the Empire: the beginning of the end?”

These three conferences were followed by a rich debate between the audience and the speakers.
